"This was an opportunity to get back on my feet. They help you so that when you go back out on your own, you’re ready. You can be self-sufficient. It meant a lot to me. The deal that The Salvation Army offers you, you can’t beat. This is the spot to be if you want to do something with your life."
Starting in 2011, The Salvation Army began meeting the needs of a growing population in our area: homeless families. Joyce Raley Teel, Co- Chair of the Board of Directors for Raley's Family of Fine Stores, generously donated $2 million to help make this possible. The donation was made in honor of her late mother E. Claire Raley, who was assisted by The Salvation Army as a child. The result is the E. Claire Raley Transitional Living Center, a 34-unit complex providing struggling families with structured programs and an opportunity to live in a safe apartment for six months to two years.
In addition to the warmth and stability of their furnished units, families take advantage of important social services programs, including daily counseling to help them find stable housing and employment. The complex is also a clean and sober environment, offering recovery and prevention services. The breadth of this program truly transforms the lives of Sacramento families.
